Fringe Taper Fade
The Fringe Taper Fade course for barbers working with wavy hair. Learn to control weight, eliminate the "mushroom" effect, and create texture with the Razor.
Result and process
About the course
Fringe Taper Fade is a technique combining the precision of a low taper with a heavily textured, longer fringe. This course shows how to tame difficult, wavy hair prone to the "mushroom effect" - excess weight at the back of the head - and turn its natural curl into a controlled, sculptable shape. This is a haircut for clients who want a bold, characterful style without the daily battle of styling it.
Miłosz Mikołajczak guides you through the entire process - from consultation and analysis of the natural curl, through systematic sectioning of the head, to working with the Razor on the fringe. You'll see how to work with intention by using the client's head tilt to maintain a consistent fading angle and shift the hair's weight upward, eliminating unwanted volume at the back of the head. The course emphasizes working with the hair's natural qualities, so the style falls into place almost on its own.
In this course, you'll see
- How to use the client's head tilt to create perfect fading without guessing angles - keeping the hair parallel to the floor
- A method to eliminate the "mushroom" effect - shifting the hair's weight up from the back of the head by working in a circle horizontally and a triangle vertically
- Working with the Razor to build irregular, sculptable texture on the fringe and throughout the top
- Intentionally using disconnection between the top and back as a tool to build up weight at the front of the style
- A simple, repeatable sectioning pattern (the classic T-shape) that systemizes the work and lets you focus on the shape
- Styling with a diffuser used only on the fringe, to maximize the curl definition without creating unwanted curls at the back and sides
After this course, you'll start seeing wavy, hard-to-style hair as creative material rather than a problem to solve. You'll learn to build a shape that works with the hair's natural structure, and the fading and Razor techniques will let you offer clients haircuts that look great not only fresh out of the salon, but every single day.

1:3001Diagnosing the problem - excess weight
We have a very, very large amount of weight here in this part of the head.
16:1402The key to fading - working with the client's head
The angle at which the hair exits the head has already changed. It's no longer ninety degrees.
21:5803Controlling the shape while cutting the back
A nice round shape is starting to form here. Look at that.
33:4304Side panel cutting technique
My knuckles move away from the head, while my fingers almost want to press into the head.
41:0105Introducing the Razor for texturizing
To emphasize this curl even more, I'll use the Razor.
47:4906Advanced technique - sliding with the knife
You can also slide the Razor along the hair, if you're brave enough.
52:0107Styling - blow-drying without a concentrator nozzle
I'll dry it very loosely, without a concentrator nozzle on the dryer, with free-flowing movements.
1:46:2708Summary of the key cutting techniques
We worked with the Razor to create exactly this kind of sculptable texture in the hair.
