Loose Textured Middle Part

A men's haircut course in which Gracjan Fogiel cuts a loose middle part without clippers, using only scissors and a razor: he starts by analysing a square face and a receding forehead, creates a nape disconnection marked with a razor that holds down the cowlicks and reveals a tattoo, cuts the upper occipital from a guide, the crown in high graduation, the sides with a razor and the top in round layers in a square shape, then styles it with matte paste on wet hair, dries it and softens the disconnection.

About the course

Loose Textured Middle Part is a men's haircut in which Gracjan Fogiel creates a very loose, airy middle part with lots of texture and lightness. There are no clippers in this course: all the texture is built with scissors and a razor. The model has straight hair that turns slightly at the ends, a square face, a slightly receding forehead, a lot of weight on the sides and at the back, and a neck tattoo that the haircut should reveal.

The course takes you through the whole process: from analysing the face and head, through sectioning with a curved crown, a nape disconnection marked with a razor, the upper occipital cut from a guide in horizontal sections, the crown in high graduation and the sides with a razor, to the top in round layers in a square shape, connecting the top and sides, styling with matte paste on wet hair, drying and dry personalisation. At every section Gracjan Fogiel shows how he checks the elevation by the line of the guide.

In this course you'll see

  • An analysis of a square face and a receding forehead that leads to a fringe falling onto the forehead
  • A nape disconnection marked with a razor that holds down the cowlicks and reveals the tattoo
  • The guide in the upper occipital and the sharp line test that tells you the elevation is right
  • Sides cut with a razor, with the direction of the blade chosen to match the curl of the ends
  • The top in round layers in a square shape, without lengthening the fringe
  • Styling with matte paste on wet hair, drying without a nozzle, a diffuser and a flat nozzle
  • Softening the disconnection with a razor and detailing with scissors and a trimmer

What you will learn

  1. 01How to plan a loose middle part with a fringe falling onto the forehead from the face shape, the forehead profile and the weight on the sides.
  2. 02How to create a nape disconnection with a razor that holds down the cowlicks and reveals the tattoo.
  3. 03How to cut the upper occipital from a guide and check the elevation by the sharpness of the line at every section.
  4. 04How to cut the sides with a razor, choosing the direction of the blade and the length of the stroke to match the curl of the ends.
  5. 05How to cut the top in round layers in a square shape and connect it to the sides without lengthening the fringe.
  6. 06How to style the cut with matte paste on wet hair, dry it while keeping the natural movement and soften the disconnection.

  1. Loose Textured Middle Part - A loose, textured middle part0:04

    01A loose, textured middle part

today I'll show you a middle part style haircut, a very loose, flowy one, with a lot of texture and a lot of lightness.

  2. Loose Textured Middle Part - No clippers0:56

    02No clippers

Unfortunately, there won't be any clippers here, but there will be more texture, chaos, and lightness created with scissors or a razor.

  3. Loose Textured Middle Part - A receding forehead1:33

    03A receding forehead

his forehead is slightly receding, which shows us that the haircut we need to create should ideally fall a little bit onto the forehead.

  4. Loose Textured Middle Part - Curved sections4:32

    04Curved sections

If our sections are more like curves, the haircut will sit much softer.

  5. Loose Textured Middle Part - Length of the razor stroke6:16

    05Length of the razor stroke

The longer the stroke we make, it means the hair will be more messy.

  6. Loose Textured Middle Part - A razor for texture7:59

    06A razor for texture

The razor isn't a tool that gives us the highest precision. It's used for messing things up

  7. Loose Textured Middle Part - A sharp guide line13:08

    07A sharp guide line

When the line is sharp, it means we can go ahead and cut.

  8. Loose Textured Middle Part - Chair at 45 degrees33:02

    08Chair at 45 degrees

The simplest thing is to position the chair at like 45 degrees for example from the mirror

  9. Loose Textured Middle Part - Direction of the razor36:46

    09Direction of the razor

We want this hair over his ear to curl more upwards, so this first section we cut in a very simple way by swinging the razor from the top.

  10. Loose Textured Middle Part - A fringe without lengthening51:58

    10A fringe without lengthening

the middle parts that are taking over are such that the front hair actually falls heavily onto the forehead

  11. Loose Textured Middle Part - A razor without pressure57:57

    11A razor without pressure

I actually just lay this razor down and don't press with my hand at all.

  12. Loose Textured Middle Part - Matte paste on wet hair58:36

    12Matte paste on wet hair

I apply a matte hair paste, quite strong, to stiffen the hair. I apply all this to wet hair.

FAQ

Who is this course for?
For hairdressers and barbers who want to cut longer men's haircuts without clippers: work with a razor on the sides and nape, cut from a guide and control the elevation at every section.
What tools do I need?
Scissors, a razor, a comb, clips, water to dampen the hair, a hairdryer with a diffuser and a flat nozzle, a brush, a trimmer for the nape line and a strong, pliable matte paste.
When should I use a nape disconnection?
When the nape has a lot of cowlicks and unusual growth directions. Short hair there would start to bend, while long, heavy, dense hair holds the cowlicks down. In the course the disconnection line ends where the cowlicks end and reveals the neck tattoo.
How do I check that the elevation is right?
With the guide. Gracjan Fogiel combs the new section down to the previous one and looks at the line: sharp means the elevation is right, ragged with large teeth means he is too high or too low. With a razor you cannot see how sharp the line is, so he checks the elevation in the mirror.
Why isn't the fringe lengthened?
Because in today's middle parts the first hairs fall heavily onto the forehead, and with a lengthened fringe the hair quickly pushes outwards. Round layers in a square shape make the front hair curl onto the forehead by itself while the hair at the sides turns back.
How should the client style this cut at home?
Gracjan Fogiel recommends applying the product to wet hair, arranging it the way the client likes and letting it dry naturally. The cut can also be loosely messed up with the fingers.
