The result and the process
What you'll learn
How to creatively divide the head into panels, adapting the sections to the anatomy.
How to create a gradient on the back using semicircular separations without the "triangle" effect.
How to create a heavy layered cut on the sides by pulling the strands toward a single point.
How to connect the top to the sides using a redirect to create a square shape.
When and how to use a Chinese razor (straight razor) exclusively along the outline of the haircut.
How to create texture using the point-cutting technique without damaging the shape.
The Middle Part is a modern take on the classic men’s haircut from the 1990s, built on precise layering techniques. The course demonstrates how to create a hairstyle with a defined shape and natural movement on thick, manageable hair—one that styles itself without fighting against the hair’s natural growth pattern. This is a cut where a deliberate division of the head and working with the anatomy replace forceful styling.
Mateusz Banaszek guides you through the entire process, starting with an analysis of the head’s internal structure and the creative placement of sections. You’ll see how he works on the back panel, using semicircular sections (transitioning from diagonal to horizontal) to avoid a heavy triangle shape and achieve a smooth curve. The key is to work in a circular motion and consciously build volume by adjusting the lift of the strands, which creates the foundation for the entire hairstyle.
In this course, you'll learn:
- A creative division of the head into four sections – why the sections are adapted to the shape of the head rather than following a single template
- Work with the gradation on the back panel using semi-circular separations to avoid the heavy "triangle" effect seen in a mullet
- Creating a heavy layered cut on the sides by pulling the strands toward a single point and seamlessly blending it into a lighter back
- Connecting the top to the sides by offsetting along the X-axis to create a square shape and maintain weight at the corners
- Using a Chinese razor (straight razor) only along the outline – how to add movement without compromising the technical structure of the hairstyle
- Precise point cutting parallel to the hair strand to reduce volume and add texture without altering the established shape
- Creating a deliberate contrast between longer bangs and the rest of the hairstyle as a distinctive feature
After this course, you’ll start to view sectioning as a design phase rather than just a preparatory step. You’ll learn to control weight and lightness in your layering, consciously use redirecting to blend sections, and create hairstyles that combine technical precision with a natural, effortless everyday look.
