Dyson for professionals: From dryers to brushes – an overview of the entire product line

Technology in the hands of a hairdresser

Hi, this is Kamil Cesarski. As the co-founder of Connected Hair and a hairdresser with many years of experience, I have had the opportunity to test dozens of professional devices. However, since Dyson entered the hairdressing market, a lot has changed. Today, as an official Dyson partner, I want to share with you my honest observations about the brand's entire professional product line.

Over the years, I have used various Dyson devices – both in my daily work and during demonstrations. Some of them have proven to be revolutionary, others simply reliable. In this article, I will not embellish anything – you will learn about the actual advantages and disadvantages of each device, which will help you make an informed purchasing decision and choose the equipment that really suits your needs.

Dyson Professional hairdressing accessories

Before I move on to the main devices, I would like to draw your attention to something that we often overlook when we first look at the Dyson brand: its extensive line of professional accessories. It may seem insignificant, but in my experience, it is precisely these "little things" that can significantly improve everyday work in the salon.

Accessory storage bag

I'm a bit of a neat freak when it comes to equipment (anyone who knows me from shows knows this!). That's why the professional Dyson bag for storing brushes and accessories is a perfect fit for me:

“I am obsessed with equipment, so I have lost many tools due to poor storage. That's why this bag surprised me a little, but also made me very happy.”

It is not just a storage space, but an organizational system that allows for instant access to the tools you need while working.

Professional hairdressing clips

The set includes really strong clips, which I particularly appreciate when working with long hair:

“These clips are very strong, especially if you are working with long hair and want, for example, a client to move from the wash basin to the styling station. They are a great thing.”

What convinced me to buy these clips? First and foremost:

  • Rubberized elements that do not slip even on fine hair
  • Durable metal construction that won't break after a few uses
  • Wide spacing that allows you to grab large sections of hair

It may seem like a minor detail, but a sturdy clip that doesn't come loose at the wrong moment is essential for professional work.

Professional comb

The Dyson line also includes a wide-tooth comb, which I consider to be a technologically advanced tool:

"This is technologically very advanced and interesting equipment. That's why I want to show it to you, because not everyone has access to such equipment, and sometimes it's worth investing in and minimalistically organizing your hairdressing or barber station."

After several months of use, I still appreciate:

  • Perfectly polished teeth that glide smoothly through thick hair
  • Ergonomic handle that does not tire the hand even during prolonged use
  • Can be used on both dry and wet hair

Professional brushes

My everyday arsenal also includes Dyson brushes in three sizes:

"I even use the smallest brush as a beard roller, and it works great on longer facial hair. It has a strong grip, pulls hair out very effectively, and it just works."

What sets these brushes apart is their modern manufacturing technology:

"It's such a modern technology that it's not a wire brush, it's just a material that's rounded at the end, which is very gentle on the hair and scalp."

The set includes:

  1. Flat brush on a cushion – heat resistant up to 150°C, ideal for detangling and straightening
  2. 45mm and 35mm round brushes – perfect for creating volume and styling
  3. A smaller brush – which I even use to style my beard

Mirror holder

The magnetic holder mounted on the mirror deserves a separate mention:

"For example, this is also an original Dyson product, which means that we get three magnets and a dryer holder in the package, and you can hang your dryer in this way."

This inconspicuous gadget really helps to organize your workspace, especially when working in smaller spaces. The dryer is always at hand, yet does not take up valuable counter space.

Dyson Corrale Professional – a new version of the hair straightener

When I first heard about the Dyson cordless straightener, I was skeptical. After years of testing various devices, I know that batteries are usually more trouble than they're worth. But the Corrale Professional really surprised me.

What makes Corrale Professional stand out?

First of all, it has movable plates that actually reduce hair damage:

“It has movable plates and is very gentle on the hair. Compared to other straighteners, it reduces hair damage by more than fifty percent.”

The control panel is intuitive—three temperature settings (165°C, 185°C, and 210°C) are sufficient for working with any hair type.

Airplane mode – a feature for traveling hairdressers

For me, airplane mode is an absolute game-changer:

“They won't let you board a plane with a normal hair straightener. But you can take a Dyson hair straightener with you because it has an airplane mode. Just turn this element and you can travel with it in your carry-on luggage.”

As a hairdresser, I often travel to shows and training courses. Previously, I always had to check my straighteners into the hold, which often resulted in them getting damaged. Now I can take my Corrale in my carry-on luggage (except on flights to Japan, where different regulations apply).

Who is Corrale Professional for?

I'll be honest with you—Corrale cannot fully replace a traditional straightener in intensive salon work:

“I work faster in the salon with a traditional straightener. Corrale doesn't straighten hair as perfectly as a classic straightener—it's a compromise between the convenience of cordless operation and the end result.”

However, it is ideal for:

  • For mobile hairdressers who work at clients' homes
  • As a device for corrections and finishing touches
  • For home and travel use
  • As a supplement to the main equipment in the living room

Dyson Supersonic Professional – the evolution of a classic

Supersonic is a model I have known for years and use every day. The Professional version has undergone many minor but significant updates over the years.

Technology that really works

What has always set Supersonic apart is its advanced temperature measurements:

Supersonic measures the air temperature forty times per second and adjusts it continuously. This prevents thermal damage to the hair and helps protect its appearance and shine.

From my observations, the ionization function in Dyson works much more effectively than in other dryers, which translates into less frizzy hair and shinier results.

New caps – evolution in practice

The latest version of Supersonic Professional features two interesting attachments:

  1. Hair straightening attachment – a rotating device that works similarly to a straightener, but uses only air: "It is recommended for frizzy hair. It makes it easier to comb with a wide-toothed comb, helps to pull the hair out and give it volume."
  2. Detangling attachment – perfect for smoothing unruly hair: "My hair was left very shiny, smooth, and simply using air."

These two attachments significantly expand the capabilities of the dryer, allowing you to achieve results similar to those of an Air Styler straightener, but using only the dryer.

Filter system in the Professional version

What I particularly appreciate in the Professional version is the magnetic filter system with an additional filter included in the set:

“The set always includes two filters. This is an extremely practical solution when one filter becomes dirty.”

This is an extremely practical solution for hairdressers who work intensively throughout the day. When one filter becomes dirty, it can be quickly replaced with a clean one without interrupting work.

Settings and control

Supersonic Professional offers precise control over temperature and power:

  • Three power levels: fast drying, standard drying, and styling
  • Four temperature levels:
    • No backlight: 28°C (cool air)
    • One point: 60°C (gentle drying)
    • Two points: 80°C (standard drying)
    • Three points: 100°C (intensive drying)

In my experience, I rarely use the third (highest) temperature setting—it is really hot and rarely needed for everyday work.

Dyson Supersonic R – a revolution in form

class="wp-image-5296

I'll be honest—when I saw the first photos of the Dyson Supersonic R, I thought, "I'm not buying that." The strange, tubular shape seemed completely impractical to me.

“I wasn't impressed by this hair dryer when I saw it on social media... But after getting to know it better, i.e., simply picking it up, it's hard to put it down. That's a fact.”

After using it for the first time, I completely changed my mind. This dryer is truly a step forward.

Smart caps – a revolution in practice

What changed my approach the most was the smart cap system:

“The Supersonic R has this little sticker on each nozzle. It's a chip that simply adjusts the temperature to the type of drying.”

In practice, this means that the dryer automatically adjusts its settings to the attachment I have just attached:

“Look at it without touching the buttons. Here, it was set to maximum drying and maximum temperature, and now, with the styling attachment, it automatically switches to minimum temperature and maximum drying.”

What's more, if I modify these settings, the dryer will remember them for a given attachment. This makes everyday work much easier.

Revolutionary heating technology

Supersonic R introduces a completely new approach to air heating:

“In any conventional dryer, the middle part is cold, with only warm air coming out of the sides. With Supersonic R, you have a heating surface—ten plates placed in the curve of the device, through which air flows. This ensures that all the air is evenly warm.”

This technology, called Streamline, makes drying much faster and more even. You can clearly feel the difference when working with thicker and denser hair.

Smaller, lighter, more comfortable

Supersonic R is:

  • 30% smaller than the classic Supersonic
  • 20% lighter
  • It has a satin, matte finish that provides a better grip.

For me, as someone who dries their hair for hours every day, this weight reduction is really noticeable.

Improved diffuser

The completely redesigned diffuser is particularly noteworthy:

“Compared to other dryers, this diffuser works just as a real diffuser should—it gets very hot and gives off a lot of heat, but with a very gentle breeze. Thanks to this, your hair isn't puffy, but very thick and full of volume.”

For hairdressers who often work with curly hair, this diffuser is a real revolution—the results it achieves are much better than those obtained with standard diffusers.

Hair dryer comparison: Supersonic Professional vs. Supersonic R

After months of using both models, I can present a reliable comparison of them.

Engine and performance

  • Motor: "The speed of both dryers is the same. Both the Supersonic and Supersonic R have a V9 motor with 110,000 revolutions per minute."
  • Cable: Both Professional versions have a long, 4.5-meter cable.
  • Reliability: I have been using Dyson products for years and none of them have ever broken down: "I have never had a Dyson break down. We have three hair dryers from different years and they all work flawlessly."

Key differences

  1. Heating technology:
    • Supersonic Professional: classic heating system
    • Supersonic R: ten Streamline heating plates
  2. Caps:
    • Supersonic Professional: standard magnetic attachments
    • Supersonic R: smart brush heads with a chip that automatically adjusts settings
  3. Diffuser:
    • Supersonic Professional: standard diffuser
    • Supersonic R: redesigned diffuser for better results on curly hair
  4. Weight and size:
    • The Supersonic R is 30% smaller and 20% lighter.

Important information for hairdressers

Many colleagues ask me whether Supersonic R will replace the previous model. According to my information, it will not:

“Important information – it's not that one model replaces the other. They are both manufactured in parallel. As far as I know, Dyson has no plans to discontinue either of these dryers.”

This is good news both for those who prefer classic shapes and for those who are open to new ideas.

Practical tips for professionals

Over years of using Dyson equipment, I have developed several techniques that may be useful to other professionals.

My system for taking care of dryer filters

Here is my method, which works perfectly in intensive salon work:

“I remove the filter, clean it of hair, put it in soapy water, just like in a vacuum cleaner – this is my trick, not Dyson's. I put on the second filter and continue working. At the end of the day, I remove the filter from the soapy water, dry it, and set it aside to dry. It is important never to put on a wet filter!”

Key tip: never install a wet filter! Always make sure the filter is completely dry before reusing it.

Optimal temperature selection

In my experience, the highest temperature setting (100°C) is mainly useful for quickly drying very wet, thick hair. For most styling tasks, lower settings are sufficient and safer for the hair.

Organization of the Dyson product display

Professionalism also means organizing your workplace:

“I like to keep my equipment organized. Anyone who knows me or has seen me at training sessions knows that I always keep my equipment reasonably organized and take great care of it.”

I recommend special Dyson holders that can be mounted on the mirror—they save space and make it easier to access tools while working.

Transporting equipment while traveling

For hairdressers who travel a lot, I have good news:

“You won't be allowed to board a plane with a normal hair straightener. However, you can take a Dyson hair straightener with activated airplane mode in your carry-on luggage.”

This is a huge advantage if you often fly to shows, competitions, or training sessions.

Summary and which dryer is right for whom

class="wp-image-5293

After several years of intensive use of Dyson products, I have my preferences, but I try to be objective:

"Of course, I prefer to work with version R. But that's just my experience."

Which model for whom?

Supersonic Professional will be ideal for:

  • Hairdressers who value classic, proven styles
  • Salons where many people work (intuitive operation)
  • Styling that requires very precise control
  • People with smaller hands, who may find the R model too bulky

Supersonic R is designed for:

  • Hairdressers who often work with different hair types (thanks to smart attachments)
  • Specialists in curly hair (due to the improved diffuser)
  • Those who value innovation and the latest technologies
  • Hairdressers working long hours every day (lighter construction)

The most important thing is that both models are still being developed in parallel:

“If someone buys a Dyson Professional because they like it, because they want it, because it's cheaper, because I don't know why, because it matches their living room decor, they will also be satisfied, but that doesn't mean they will have an old Dyson, they will have a new Dyson all the time, only a Dyson Professional Supersonic and Supersonic R.”

My final opinion

As a professional with many years of experience, I can say with a clear conscience that Dyson Professional products are a solid investment for any hairdresser. Yes, they are more expensive than standard devices, but their durability, functionality, and impact on the health of customers' hair mean that this investment pays for itself many times over.
